Morson Fall Fishing report

Recommended Posts

Quote:

P.S. On Saturday there were endless strings of lesser honkers heading south and flying very high... probably from Hudsons Bay... what a great start to autumn to hear that noise all day and look up and see 50-100 birds in a V!!

Wild Thing, I will second that! Had My Brother's Brother in law with us. He had never witnessed any thing like that. It was awesome. I look at those bigs flocks and can't help but wonder, where their coming from and where are they headed.

Just got back today. I didn't get much fishing in as the wind started to howl making boat control fun (not!). Today would've been a good day to be on the water.

My buddies hunted and got 12 geese, and 31 ducks (between 3 people). I seem to remember a couple of woodies, a bunch of mallards, teal, and I'm sure a couple of others I don't know.

I think this thread has been hijacked!!

You're right.... Sorry for hijaking the post! I get carried away this time of year...

I wish they ran this HSOforum by geographic area rather than subject matter. I have no interest in hunting geese at Rochester or Twin Cities so I don't read the waterfowl post but I do think several folks could share info somewhere on hunting in Morson area.

I also wish we could get some sub-areas under Canada so we didn't have to wade through stuff we don't care about...

Anyhow... if I hear of any fishing reports I'll post them but I pledge not to post hunting stuff here any more unless someone asks.

Back in December with ice fishing reports!!

Be safe out there. I'm back up in 6 days...

I'll be interested to hear those early season ice reports. My buddy just got his cabin to where we can go up now and now freeze to death. We're both looking forwardt o Lsker's through the ice and getting some walleyes, finally.

Just post to the thread with a hunting title for hunting info in Morson.

Finally got a fishing report . . .

Friday: Somewhat of a cold, ugly, windy day. Went east by Blueberry. Caught some bonus crappie, some small walleyes and some perch. Nothing to write home about.

Saturday. Skies cleared SW "breeze" changing to the west probably 10-20mph. Started at Blueberry again. Much better luck. Caught four nice 17-19" walleyes in 16-20'. Also lost two nice big fish on jigs and there were quit a few 10-14 inchers. Caught them on jig & minnow and trolling spinners. After lunch, tried two spots with no luck - one was a channel with weeds on one side and rock on the other going from 20' to 12'. Then went up to the area between Rabbit and Burrws area and hit some nice 17-19". Trolled spinners from 12-30'.

It wasn't fast and furious, but steady fall action. I wanted to get up to Miles and Obabikon, but the darn fish got in the way. Lost some nice mid-20's fish but caught nice mid-range fish. Got excellent minnows from BV.

Would have been a perfect weekend if the ducks would have cooperated. We scouted for ducks Friday and did not see a lot flying. Went out Saturday morning and it was very slow.

Fishing was good caught our limit of both Walleyes and Crappies in Obiabikon on Saturday. Crappies were not as big as in past years maybe they will get bigger as we get later into fall. Went up to Miles Bay Sunday it appeared Crappies were biting up their as well. We could only manage to catch small Walleyes and Saugers 10-12 inchers.

Will be heading up the first weekend in October hopefully the duck hunting will be better.

There is absolutely no problem with other reports such as ducks, geese, grouse, big game, you name it. Just put it in the geographically correct forum with the appropriate title, that's it. I just believe there were some hunting reports in a post titled "Morson Fall Fishing Report" (which has been an excellent thread, btw)

If you have hunting reports, let's hear them! I know the "Canada" forum is very geographically large, but title your posts accordingly and the traffic on that post will come accordingly.

Shorelunch, I haven't forgotten about you either, as far as the Loomis goes. I just haven't had a chance to get it to the right people. We might just have to meet on the lake someday!?

Drop me an email and we can hopefully coordinate something. My appologies.

No problem Hemlock. I hope to get back up there in October, otherwise let me know if you or someone you know plans to head through Bemidji.

Regarding waterfowl. I saw quite a few honkers and a few teal/mallards in the back bays and heard some gun shots. However, I asked a few parties coming after the water how they did and they said they didn't fare to well.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
