Trailer wiring

harvey lee

Question

I need to put a new female connector on my 4-wheeler trailer. I took off the 5 wire-4 post connector and need to connect a new one to the truck.

I have a 4 prong-4-wire female and cannot seem to get it all to work right.

Can someone please suggest which wires go to which. I have 5 from the trailer and 4 from the truck.

Thanks

The yellow is the left stop/turn signal wire. The green is the right stop/turn signal wire. The two brown wires are the running lights and can be spliced to the single brown wire on the four way connector. The white wire is ground.

If you have a 5th wire of blue color from trailer, it's the electric brake (or reverse lock).

It's up to you to use it it not.

Electric brakes are run in conjunction with a box inside cab

Tom,

If you have not already cut wires, could you buy and adapter at Northern? They have a ton of them. I think you have the little 5 wire round connector. You could buy an adapter to go to a flat 4 prong?

Good luck!

Are you getting ready for hunting?

I had a 5 wire -4 prong flat connector. I got it wired this morning. The trailer is 4 years old and its a aluminum. I redid all the ground wires direct to the light boxes as it seems with the trailer light box to the alum. frame, you get corrision and lose your ground. I figure with the ground wire right to the light I should eliminate that problem with corrision.

Yes, getting everything ready for the fall archery season in North Dakota. 4- wheelers, stands, blinds and all the other gear my son is taking up this weekend. He is also putting out some mineral blocks, camera's and setting up some stands. It will be easy when I get up there to hunt.
