Down2Earth
Besides cutting a V shape into the crack and mudding and taping again has anyone used that step saver tex tape? Any other fixes or ideas? How about using painter silicone and filing in the crack?
Ebiz
I've been wondering the same thing. I live on the "forgotten stretch of road" as I can it - County Road H in New Brighton/Mounds View from Silver Lake Road west to the Fridely border. This road is in terrible shape. In particular, the spot right in front of my house which continues to open up even after it's been filled multiple times. This winter it was so bad that cars were having mufflers and other parts ripped off while going over it. The biggest problem is that cars and trucks going over this spot actually are causing our house to shake. Glasses rattle in the cupboards, floors vibrates, and most recently it has started to cause our drywall to crack in multiple places.I would like to start patching some of these cracks so any ideas you guys have would be greatly appreciated. On a side note, does anyone know how to go about getting some attention from Ramsey County to get a road fixed? I've e-mailed the "pothole hotline" to no avail.
sparcebag
Your house is new right? for now let a coat of paint fill it and wait to see if any other cracks appear, some houses settle for years and hairline cracks may show up but I'd be in no hurry.Your probably the only person who can see it without looking really close. What kind of tape are you refering to??Tex Tape??? Shack
Sparce could be on to something!Could it be a paint crack? That or mud mixed to thin?
Down2Earth
The house is 2 years old. I'm pretty sure it's not the mud mixed because I bought it premixed. I have already painted over it but it shows back up. The tape I'm talking about is called Step Saver Tex Tape. You can google it and it looks pretty slick. The tape cames pretextured and it says you can just put it on over the crack and paint. It allows the crack to move under the tape and never will show again. So thats what the add says. The site says it's sold at Sherwin Williams.
sparcebag
D2E is the crack on a taped joint? I dont know about Tex Tape however I'd guess painted duct tape would look the same,Get some spackle apply it with your finger force it in the crack, and if your walls are textured use a damp sponge to remove excess spackle so texture shows nice. Walleye Guy
Did you use paper tape or the sticking fiberglass tape. As an amatuer I would rather use the fiberglass tape. However I have found it to be more prone to cracking then paper taped joints. Keep in mind if there is a lot of settling going on neither type tape is going to stay uncracked. Down2Earth
Yes the crack is on a joint. I used paper tape. I'll give the suggestions a try.
