gps question

Question

I have a lowrance x-17 & my gps map pointer does not point to the destination unless I go at a good pace but will continue to move towards the destination backwards, it's frustrating because you can't tell wich way the boat is moving until your way of course and usaully because i set the troller motor at 100% and left so that i could find out what way the destination was i was using a garmin hand held etrex venture but dropped it over the side of the boat

Lucky,

I have noticed on my Lowrance units that you have to get going about one mph before the map will show the proper direction. To fix the destination moving backwards problem, you have to set the map to display “track up” instead of “north up”.

Have it on north up and then add a compass to your boat and it will be ok. That is what I did. If you are moving too slow it just doesn't register what is going on. But that is what I did with mine and it make it much easier especially when locating a WPT.
