I hope to god no one was fishing under 35W bridge this evening (around 6). My brother in-law and I were planning to fish right under their on Friday night and then go to St Paul. "Storm Drain"

We have been doing this now a couple of times a month. It is terrible what happened and I hope no one was down their. I know a couple do fish down their.

48 hours from now, we would of been down their.

I tell ya!

Looking up at the bridges during the night time! Looking up at it, maked me weezy. Kids and others walking across, that is one high bridge.

I am watching T.V. right now.

I got a call from my fishing partner, during a call from a very good buddy of mine that was involved in the Great River building collapse. They are pouring the area that collapsed tomorrow. It sure was a freakish thing I was talking about this when my brother in-law called an in formed me of this other concern.

Also to say it was the same spot we have fished 4 times this year and going to tomorrow evening. Wow, what a night!

I was telling my buddy Shane Kasper about this last weekend's get together of the KOTC. We had just gotten done talking about him repouring the slap that fell and left him stranded on a pillar, then the phone call interruption about what happened.

Not only do I feel for all involved in the collapse and pray they find the lost 20 people but the poor divers that may have to go in the river looking and hooking up to vehicles to be lifted out.. They will be in for a shock when they run into some of them huge Flattys down there..

peir, since you fish this area alot, how deep is the water under the bridge there?

Don't know exactly, but deep enough to get barges through. The area is directly under the lower St. Anthony Falls lock.

I believe a 9 ft. channel is kept dreged for barges, but the river has its own mind.

I thought of Pier right away. Nice pic of the bridge. Gives people a good look at how big that thing was.

We would hit the sewer/storm drain right by north piller for about 45 minutes on our way to St Paul. Like others have said, this fishing down their as of late has been very slow, but because of pier it was a spot we had to try.

Looks like we will not be going down their any time soon. What happened is a very terrible thing frown.gif

I hope no one else from FM was on bridge.

Sparce,

If you read my first post, I was one the phone with him recapping the KOTC get together from last weekend, when my other fishing buddy called and informed me of what happened at 35W bridge.

P.S.

They are pouring the slab that fell at the Great River Energy center as we speak/post. Freakish for my buddy, being at this site and pouring the same slab that fell, while this is going on 10-15 miles from their. He said the new forms they have would never buckle, but it makes you think. confused.gif

The area the bridge fell is currently 7' deep in the low water. The area next to the lock wall is slightly deeper(The water is low). That area is not dredged, its directly to the side of the lower St Anthony Lock and all rock bottom. There are a couple holes directly downstream, one is by the pillar of the next bridge down(10th ave or Cedar), then there is another hole on the north side of the park(Bohemien Flats), and the last hole is across the river near the culvert.

Any debris, cars, and whatever else came from this accident in the low current shouldnt make it very far(with the exception of the oil slicks frown.gif) The Oil slicks were building up at the Ford Dam as of 8/3, and are likely getting dispersed well through pool 2 by now with the water still going through the power house.
