Gotem
I am making my first ever trip to Alaska and was wondering about what to pack. We will be up there the week of August 20th for several days of halibut and salmon fishing. My main concern is what to bring for rain gear. Is it cool enough that I'll want an insulated rain jacket and bibs? Do I just want uninsulated gear and wear layers underneath? Any other suggestions on what to pack from people that have been there before? Thanks
fishermann222
For the halibut fishing you will want some warmer clothes, for the other fishing, a few layers under raingear, or just raingear over normal clothes will be more than plenty. Good luck and have fun.
alaskadreamin
Just got back, temps are in the high 60's low 70's so I would go light rain gear and adjust with layers. Great weather, better than 90's.Have a great time!! Wish I was going back with you!!
Gotem
Can't wait, 11 more days till the plane leaves. What kind of fishing did you do or what area did you stay? We are staying in a lodge around Anchor Point. I've been watching the weather and it seems like it's been in the 60's. That will feel good!!! Gotem
Yep, all charters. We are staying at a lodge in the Anchor Point area and they took care of booking all our charters for us. We have 2 days each of halibut and salmon fishing planned. Can't wait!

Gotem
Can't wait for the cool weather!! It's been in the mid 90's here the past few weeks. Getting a bunch of silvers is the plan. I already have someone lined up to smoke them for me. I hope that didn't jinx me?? Thanks for the picture and I hope to have some to share in two weeks! One week and 2.5 hours till lift off!! Gotem
What an awesome trip and the weather was wonderful. Monday was a halibut/ling cod trip, both of our boats did great. It sure does get a tad rough out in the Gulf of Alaska with a 28 foot boat, my oh my. Tuesday was silver salmon fishing on a river. Wednesday was straight halibut fishing. All 8 of us were together this day and had no problem catching our fish. Friday was ocean silver salmon and then the boat I was on also went out halibut fishing again. I wish I could do this every year. On Saturday when it was time to come home, it was 65 and not a cloud in the sky. It was very hard getting on that plane!!
