For that year the two options are the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder and the 3.4 liter v-6 if I remember correctly.

The 3.4 has the same intake gasket failure problem that the 3.1 liter has. They do/can leak internally into the the oil which will turn the oil a chocolate milk color simular to a head gasket failer. More commonly they will fail in the area by the throttle body and rear head and second common is near the throttle body and the front head. this failure is typically an external leak.

We also see a higher failure of the head gaskets with the 3.4 liter. The minivans have this problem more frequently than the cars but its not out of the question for one in a car to fail also.

The 2.4 liters had problems with the water pumps leaking. If I remember right some of them where a little quirky. They would only leak either hot or cold with the engine running. If the engine was off you would not see the leak.

Are we talking about a Mt. Iron Red Raider? I Graduated post consolidation so I consider myself a Ranger. grin.gif

I'll check and see, I know it is a V 6, went through that problem with the van, hope the car is something less expensive. And yes, that would be Mt. Iron, RR, from years ago, further deranged than you, but we are all "Rangers".
