stick
I tried a search and came up with no results, but I was wondering if anyone has ever eaten freshwater clams. I was plucking them out of the sand at a lake I frequent (just to remove them for swimming), and started picturing them cooked in a wine, garlic and butter sauce and wondered if anyone eats these darn things.Anyone have a comment? RobertELee
Just be very careful!!! What you actually collected are freshwater mussels, there are no large clams in Minnesota, just a few species of tiny clams. Of the 48 species of Mussels in Minnesota, 25 of them are protected, and can NOT be touched!
PikeTipper
I didn't think that was right but just did some searching and RobertELee is correct. I found it on the DNR web site and they are mussels, no live mussels can be collected in Minnesota. DNR Link
Tippman
I guess we don't get to find out how good eating they are
stick
Is anyone out there naive as I am thinking they are clams, and have tried eating them. If you were just that stupid and had tried them, how were they?
iland99
I've tried them once, when I was a kid. We got some clams and crayfish out of a spring-fed clean lake, thinking they'd be good. The crayfish weren't bad. The clams were pretty good too, if you like how a muddy latex glove tastes. I wouldn't recommend it.
