Spring turkey shot on last day of my season

So, I had a license for the first season of the Spring hunt. The gobblers were not coming in for me this year, and I was getting a little discouraged. I sure could get them excited, but they would not come in.

While walking to my "spot" on the last day of my season, I scared up a Tom in the woods. He flew up like a grouse (which is rare), and I shot him. He fell into a pond and flopped around as he was head-shot.

I knew it was a nice-sized bird and it was 19 pounds, but only had a 4 1/2 inch beard. Also, turkey and water must not mix as nearly all of his belly feathers and his tail feathers came off in the water!

Oh well, I got my bird...but in an unusual way. Not very pretty for the picture either.

Yeah they get pretty messy when they're soaked.
