New 5th wheel

I'm thinking of getting a 5th wheel camper. I'd like one under 26 feet so I can still put the boat behind it and I don't want a big one. I'm looking at a new one at a reasonable price. (20k or less) Anyone have any suggestions on a particular make/model that you like? Also a dealer you like?

One thing that you have to watch when buying a new camper is the warranty. Most companies will void the frame warranty if you pull something behind a fifth wheel. Crossroads makes a Cruiser Sport model that has a two inch receiver hitch as an option. They make a nice quality camper at a reasonable price and they back their warranty very well. I have a Cruiser and when I have had warranty work that needed to be done they let me take it where I wanted to get the work done and paid the bill. Cruisers have aluminum framing in the walls, ceiling and floor and are glass on the outside. They are designed so they can be towed by half ton pickups. I think theyu make them as small as 24 feet. I have a 32 foot fifth wheel and love it. I paid under $25k for my 32 footer with two glide outs.

wally-eye,

I was in a quest for the same thing earlier this year. I ended up with a Sunset Creek 26' fth wheel. I've pulled our 17' fish hawk behind the camper twice (over 600 miles each trip). It's a light weight camper with all the necessities, if you have kids I'd highly recomend it. It has two bunks in the back and the bottom bunk folds to allow for a pack and play.

As a 2006 hold over we got it for under $19K, If you want more details just let me know.

I purchased a Gulfstream Innsbrook for the same purpose 2 years ago. It is a 24' model, although actually 26.5' (typical w/ most 5th wheels), I looked at many units focusing closely at the frame to allow adding a safe and strong hitch, I custom made mine and could pull most any boat although prefer <18.5' for peace of mind. Crystal welding north of the cities also does a lot of 5th wheel hitch mod's. I got the Innsbrook for <20k new, I like the slideout layout which really opens the floor plan, and also chairs in back of unit for comfort when confined and the storage. Basically you can pay between 18-26K for a ~26' new model unit, and the bottom line is you get what you pay for!
