I was thinking of buying one of these to put on a 15ft row boat and than later a 14ft jon boat for the river. Was wondering if anyone has one and could tell me if this is worth buying.

I was not aware Tohatsu made a four-stroke oouboard. The Tohatsu's most of us are familiar with are small, inexpensive AIR cooled motors. These motors are two-stroke. The primary drawback to them is that they ARE LOUD!! If you have severe budget restraints it may be the way you want to go. OR....look for an older, small horsepower, two stoke engine such as a little Johnson/Evinrude or Suzuki.

Have fun.

My 1997 Mercury 9.9 4 stroke is a Tohatsu engine according to a mechanic when I needed parts.

Mercury has been using Tohatsu engines and parts for a long time from what I understand. I know today all Mercury 2.5hp through 30 hp are built by Tohatsu. Google "outboard motor manufacturers directory"

I'd say it's a good buy. Cheaper price without the major name.
