Hard start old Johnson outboard

Ufatz

Question

Okay guys, here's the story. Brother has a "classic" 1975 9.9HP Johnson. It's a killer to start! Once it's running it seems fine, but low speed idle is not great. Seems to be very sensitive to choke/no choke at starting time. Any ideas? Should I just try to buy a totally new carb? wink.gif

I have a 1980 7.5hp johnson it purrs,I'd take it to a shop have them tune it,mine costs bout 50-60 bucks for tune up. grin.gifThose OB mechanics know more than me,I do do minor stuff, but to be sure I like to let them do it, cool.gif less trouble too.
