coyote calling....what works right now?

Recommended Posts

got home for the weekend last night and went on a little scouting drive, mainly to see where the geese were and if there were any deer moving; ended up glassing a large coyote on the perimiter of a 40 acre crp valley we have. all i could do was watch him, meandering around in some soybeans about 175-200 yards off the road. all i had was my ruger .22 so taking a poke at him was out of the question. ive never been calling outside of the winter months and wonder what types of calls would work right now on yotes. im interrested in trying to call 'em in with 'yote vocalizations instead of prey distress sounds. any help would be appreciated!

one of my buddies that I hunt with has had success in the summer time using pup distress sounds, Ki-yi's etc. The parents are still training those pups and if they are in the area, they will come in to help their pup.

I would start with a few howls and then work in to the pup distress, kinda like setting the table that someone is in there area and now beating on the kids. That should get the old ones in. Don't over do it though, take more time between sets and wait alittle longer, as they might now just run you over.
