Guest
LOL, that was a good one. I have one of those labs that likes to lay the big Dog Log next to the fishhouse!!the Big Dipper, that is funny you mentioned about seeing if it fit in the Croxton Pond Bad, because when I got mine, that is the first thing I did. I was thinking, this thing is HUGE, it better still fit in my Croxton Pond Bag. Not a problem!! I think we may have some ice now. Tully
Mark,How is the fishing over there on pine? I went there a couple times as a kid but never fished. I might have to head to Bagley and get my Grandpa (87) and give it a try this winter.Tully
Guest
Age 40+ LOL Just a youngster The BIG DIPPER is a great idea, fun even. It will really do it's work in thick ice - the metal could be coated with tef or something that will abate ice cling. It's a turd-tosser and gets my vote ><> ( Mort The Snort - when you bring that Black Lab out to the Shanty, your in trouble now )- LOL
Guest
Just got mine today, can't wait to try it out. Very good construction. the big dipper
Mr. Michigander and others: Just a few points of clarification regarding The Big Dipper, Hockey Stick Ice Scoop:A: the scooper cup is made of an ultra tough formula of ultra high molecelular weight polyethelyne (UHMW poly.) This polymer (plastic)is the compound that is used for snowmobile racing skis, bogy wheels, hifax slides, boss snowplow blades, truck bed liners, etc. It is very tough, and flexible in sub-freezing temps. Last winter I left a scooper out overnite in 15 below, and in the AM tried to bust the thing. I pretty much wore my arm out. The scooper cone got a little beat up looking but it didn't crack. So don't be shy about flexing / whacking these units to get ice buildup off. B: I never cease to be amazed by the creativity of your average beer addled ice fisherman. I'm just waiting for my neighbors golden retreiver to lop a droad in my yard. I think with a little practice I'll be able to sail it over my next door neighbors back yard and right back into that dang dogs kennel. In fact I might have to try marketing these units (with a few modifications) in pet stores. Possible Brand Names: The Doggy Dipper, The Scoop & Sling, Etc...Thanks for all the humor.EAT LEFSE AND FISH !!! Mark E.
Fish Toys
Hey mark I’ll eat the LEFSE but the LUTEFISH or whatever people call it can stay wherever it comes from!Oh by the way great Lefse. I usually don’t eat Lefse during the holidays because I’m soooooo full of the other main courses there isn’t room for even desert! Now I’ve been eating your Lefse instead of bread at most of my meals!Hope you are swamped with orders so you don’t have time to go fishing when the ice is thick enough like "poor old overworked me!" If the dog Doo-Doo is fresh will it freeze to the Big Dipper? LOL!“FISH” ------------------http://www.icesaws.com/
Guest
Getting ready for the season and all I have been laying all my gear out and I can't help but feel little insecure about the size of my metal dipper. I mean I used to think it was average sized but compared to the big dipper it seems that it just doesn't stack up. They say size doesn't matter but I can't help feeling that people will be looking at my dinky dipper as I walk out across the frozen lake. I could say it's shrinkage but I don't think anyone would fall for it. Does anyone know if the Big Dipper is susceptible to shrinkage. Hey Randall, Have you freed yourself from dinky dipper syndrom yet?

Duffman
Just got the Dipper delivered. Three things I'll say about it. One, it's big. Two, looks well made- but the true test is a whack or two at twenty below. And three, I no longer have ice scoop envy.

Seabass77
I just got mine in the mail yesterday. WOW this thing is great, very well built and BIG. Anyone else have the urge to put a little hockey tape around the top of it? Maybe a small piece of rope underneath the tape?
the big dipper
Glad you guys like your new dippers. George in Throop PA
Anyone in need of a new ice scoop or just want something different check out www.fishingminnesota.com/bigdipper . I ordered one the other day and it arrived today Saturday. It is probably going to be the best addition to my equipment this season. Very good quality, it should perform as good as it looks. Guest
Maybe that supper-scooper do-thingy would make for good tool for a new ice sport, something like "Ice House Lacross". Guest
I have never see a piece of equipment get so abused! We banged and whacked this thing on concrete for three straight days and could not break the darn thing.People would walk by the booth and give some pretty funny looks and I think we even scared some people!I can honestly say this is tough Big Dipper! Nicholas_23
It looks like a "cup" with holes drilled in it . does it fold up when youre trying to skim the ice out ?? or do you have to use it like a soup ladle? I like the fact that it floats!! I'm guessing it comes in different sizes too?
the big dipper
We get a lot of "nut cup" comments on the scooper bowl of the dipper, I guess it's the color - we also get "goalie mask", etc - etc. I'm already working on the next size model; "The Little Dipper" TM , a scaled down version for tune up use when space is tight, or for bucket fishermen in warmer states like Illinois, New York - Nebraska, where ice thickness is less than the 3'-4' common here in MN. I've also made up a prototype of a 40" floatable Gaff Witha detachable gaff hook, 40" ruler, hockey stick handle, wrist strap ( for northern pike anglers). Thanks for your support!! It's your enthusiasm and love of the sport that inspires creativity and drives the innovation and development of new ice fishing products. I got my start building my own gear when I was about 13 (8th grade). I wanted my Dad to buy a fish house (dark house), and one day when I got home from school there was a pile of 2x2"s-2x4"s -buffalo board- plywood sheets- etc., and when I asked my dad what the lumber was for, he said, "that's your new fishhouse" . My little brother and I built the entire thing ourselves - (we even made a wood stove out of an empty metal grease bucket). Seasons Greetings from Gonvick... I Like Worms
I believe I had the honor of being the first to purchase the big dipper at the show(unless some insiders got there first), and carried it around with me as I then walked around. It drew many looks. I used it that weekend and it worked great. My dad, mister old school, laughed when he saw it, but later on the lake, instead of taking and using his metal one, he asked me where I put mine.Last scoop I ever buy... unless I get him one for christmas. Guest
Like I said earlier Mark, you have a great idea there. I was only at the show for 3 hours but before I left I remember opening the last bag of them. Definetly a hot item. It is one of those things that once you see you have to have it. I like the fact that you can clean a hole with one scoop.I noticed you mentioned a few "other" use comments you got. I think B Sander has a few also that were pretty funny.
