hook cutters...

Recommended Posts

Hiya -

Get a set of Knipex compound cutters. They're the best there is. Period. You can cut an X/H 6/0 with one hand, and the cut piece doesn't go rocketing off at your head at 100mph. Just falls in the water.

Knipex run around $50, but they last. I used to go through a set of cheap bolt cutters every season at $20 a pair. The knipex I have in my boat are on their 7th season and still cut like they're new. And I cut hooks a LOT.

Seriously - Knipex are the only way to go. Can get them online from Esox Angler, and I think Thorne Bros carries them too.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

RK is right on the money. If the price sounds like a lot, think about a treble in your hand when you're attached to a green fish. Knipex is the ONLY cutter that you will absolutely know can cut through that hook with little effort. You don't want to be messing around with an inferior cutter when your own health is at stake. Ask Dick Pearson what it's like to be attached to a large fish in this way....

One more vote to drop a few bucks and do it right the first time. I had the others and after a garage test on the scrap jar of hardware I understood what the talk of Knipex was all about.

I had a fish last week with a hook in the lower jaw, right at the bony tip. One Knipex snip and done, I didn't even feel it in my hand, that easy.

Inflation has set in the last 7 years, the 8 inch spring loaded pair was $60. Went with the spring load mainly because it has the handle closure on it, which makes for an ideal spot to attach a lanyard so they don't get dropped overboard.

I had a fish in my boat, my net, with my cutters..........whose rod it was caught on is up for interpretation! Might have been the unofficial "Haider Guide Service" at work.........

Pretty release pic......
