Washington/Stella...help?

Hello everyone!

I'm new to these forums. Well, I shouldn't say new, but I finally joined after reading them for the past year or so.

I'm considering fishing an event on Washington/Stella this weekend, but I've never fished the lake before. Does anyone have any advice, or know how things are going out there? I would sure appreciate any tips!

I look forward to hopefully adding some insight, what little I have, to these forums!

Cheers!

I was there Saturday/Sunday prefishing for that same event, and it was NOT good. I fished all my usual spots with and caught some two pound fish, but not enough for finish in the money out there. We are skipping this one. Good luck if you fish it!

Yeah, I went out the same time and got skunked. That's always a humbling experience. Not sure if we are going to fish it either. I'd like to, but it's not looking good.

Everyone I have talked to about it says that the lake is all but dead now. I'd rather fish Stella, but after looking at that culvert there is not way I'm fitting a boat through there!

I live by the lake. The lake has been down this year but there is still some big fish. Alot of people will fish deep. I dont think you can get through the access.

We had a club tournanment out there a few weeks ago, 5 fish, 15.1l lbs won it.

Good luck all

It's a Midwest Sportsman Circuit event. Not sure how many boats are going ot be in it though since I have heard from multiple people that they are going to sit this one out.

I guess it's better odds, but it's a smaller prize.

you can always get bass in washington, i grew up in hutch and bass always came relatively easy. they're either under the docks or in the shallow weeds. shouldnt have to try much else. there used to be one place where you could get some big smallies on washington. they held there for a couple summers in a row, cant tell ya if they're or not anymore since i havent fished it since last summer.

Well, not the typical Washington as years past but we did manage to give some fresh air to several fish and the ones we did catch were very nice in size and probably would of easily won a 5 fish tournament.

The water level is way down and weeds are not as healthy and prevelant as usual.

You should be able to catch fish but be patient and confident!(2 very important words!)

Well, after scouting out last night wiuth some help from BassNSpear (thanks!), I htinkwe are going to sit this one out. Washington seem slike a lake that requires some knowledge before entering a tourney. I dinged my prop a few times and didn't find much going on fish-wise, so I guess I'll just sit out on the deck and enjoy the weather this weekend.

At least my wife will be happy.

A good friend of mine fished the tourney and according to him the winning weight was 5 fish approx 19 lbs.(Approx 25 boats) He was pretty sure the 1st and 2nd place teams fished primarily Stella,(he coundn't get thru the culvert with his boat) He finished approx 10th with 5 fish approx 11 lbs.

To have a bag like that on these lakes they had to be running and gunning. I don’t think they couldn’t have caught them fish in deep water off of one stop on these lakes. If they did i had to they had to come off of stella…my opinion wink.gif

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
