catchin'whopper
Just wondering how the bass fishing has been for other anglers out on medicine lake. I've been out there 3 times over the past week and a half, including tonight and have struggled. However, I've been checking out areas that I haven't before, utilizing LakeMaster CDRom and the LakeMaster chip to try and seek out the humps and the related structure that is on them. Basically trying to learn the other structure out there. So far I'm thinking the fish are still on the shorelines and not transitioned out to the deeper water/weedlines, but I must not be finishing the nights fishing the right shorelines.......and so with tonight, I checked out the 8ft hump on the main lake southshore. There are two on that shoreline and the one i checked out was the northern one. Tried, cranking, dropshotting senko, draggin a tube to no avail. Moved to t-rig about a 400 yard shoreline stretch from the point to the southern bays (5-8ft of water) on southward. Just some nips on it. FInished the night fan casting willow blade spinnerbait along in front of the beach to no avail...So, guess I'm wondering if anyone has any insight on where to check out, I'm from the Saint Louis Park area and looking to spend more time on this lake and figure it out. I know they're pigs out there but I typically have come across them later in the summer (July-August) in a few areas. I'm more than happy to share those spots and current reports with anyone interested - email me at kroc0005 at yahoo.com. Just thinking with all that "non-action" that the fish must be on the inside edges or in the milfoil and i havent adjust properly? Thanks in advance.-Jim
EBass
Medicine Man knows that lake really well. But I don't know if he goes on this site anymore. Sounds like you have all the tools with map chip and all. Keep at it, you'll find em. Here's a hint - find rocks
MedicineMan
catchin'whopper, I second what Ebass said. Just keep at it, it takes time to figure out the deep Bass patterns. Sorry I couldn't help you more on locating spots. But I no longer give out any info regarding the islands and points out there. What I will tell you is when fishing for Bass out in deeper water. Try dropshotting Tubes or try casting a jig and pig. Ninty five percent of the Bass will be holding within a foot of the bottom. So use anything that will go right to the bottom. BTW, here's a video I made last thursday of some Bass out there.
bassin
Hey Med man...I've been busy with other lakes this year and havent made it out there yet. Is the bite back to normal again or are things still a little off like it was most of last year?
catchin'whopper
So... it sounds like the lake is a little off though, so at least that helps out. I've been finding the rocks, transitions from sand/gravel to milfoil, just hasnt seem like there are any fish on those just yet...Thanks for the tips, haven't tried the jig/pig yet, but was throwing the dropshot and tube. Will keep punching and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the feedback!-Jim
MedicineMan
Bassin, the bite is still a little off. But it's been getting better every week.
TNFL
Keep up the reports guys! My little fishing league is having an end of year tourney and 1 of 2 days is on Medicine. Most in our league (myself include) have never been out there in the summer. Its not until darn near the end of August, but I sure would like to check it out sometime.
