"Muskies on the Shield"

I just recently picked up a copy of "Muskies on the Shield" and wanted to say if you fish for these critters, no matter where you fish for them buy this book. I have not finished reading it yet mainly because I have re-read the first 4 chapters a couple of times along with the forward by Doug Stange and preface by Mr. Pearson. After I reading what Doug Stange writes about Dick Pearson's "Lost Years" you have to take everything he writes as gospel truth. I am sure most of you who frequent this site have maybe met Mr. Pearson or have read his book already, and if that is the case well you are a few steps ahead by having done so. RK I can not imagine what it would have been like to edit that collection of information. Thanks

Definitely good stuff. I've read and re-read that thing many, many times. A couple times each winter and bits and pieces all year long. The video is good too. I do wish he'd do a video like he discusses at the start of it- formatted just like the book. I'm sure he's right, that it'd take a loooonng time to make, but man, it'd be sooooo informative. Regardless, it is very good.

If ever you want to learn how to start, or continue learning these fish, that is the book to read. While there are many good/great books out there, Dick's is something special. Believe it or not, as he states at the end of his DVD, he is working on another book. Kind of on the shelf for right now until winter, so he has told me. Can't imagine what this book will have in it, but I am sure it is going to be something special, like the first one!

Hey Jay -

Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, it's a pretty neat book. Even if you don't fish 'the shield' it's still full of good info. Had a blast working in it but it was sure a ton of work. Took us most of a year to finish. I saved some of the early drafts of it - they're pretty entertaining.

I do know Dick is sort of working on another book. Not sure where he's at with it however. Busy with my own, so haven't been involved with it really.

I would really suggest that you buy the book first then the DVD. I plan on purchasing the DVD later after reading the book at least once if not twice. Personally I get more out of the information presented by reading and re-reading. However when I was in college I used a technique called "Osmosis" where I would open the book and rest it on my head and would wait for the information to pass from the pages and into my brain while I slept off the 13/14 old mills. This works, but it is a slow process which explains the 6 year plan I mastered in my post-secondary education life.
