what time of the day to you prefer. I have been out a few times lately and seem to get them all throughout the day, but when it comes to sunset they shut off. I thought catfish bit better during the night. Maybe it is late night that is better way after the sun goes down? any help would be apprieciated. thanks

Channels kinda bite whenever as long as they got something that has some smell to it they will usually find it if its near by. I would have to saw I have caught more during the day/evening than at night but that is just because I tend to target them more during the day as I would tend to target flatheads during the lowlight periods. I am sure they continue to feed as the sun goes down but more people like to target them during the day because they are more willing to bite then as flats usually activate at night. I dunno just my 2 cents!!

From my experience on the MN river is the smaller channels bite heaviest during the day and the bigger ones at night. I suppose the smaller ones are kinda hiding since they drop on the food chain once night rolls around.

Peak activty time for channel cats is very early morning until about 7 or 8am... most of us dont even consider getting out of bed to chase them that early.

Channels genrally have a good feeding time at the sunset transition, and a while after.. but its generally at a different spot than the daytime haunts. Your daytime haunts where "they quit biting" will often become void of cats when they move into their main evening feeding areas.

I've noticed a pretty good bite happens from around 11:00 am to about 1:00 pm. It seems that most of my better fish have come either shortly before or after dusk or over the noon hour, depending on where I am.
