Uncle Grump
I was wondering if anyone out there has tryed using a garden shed as the basis for a hardside fish house? Both Menards and Fleet Farm had flyers in the mail recently w/ garden sheds in them - in the 8x8 / 8x10range. The prices on these as kits are pretty reasonable. Also - both stores are now carrying a vinyl(sp?) garden sheds. Don't know about the weight vs lumber - but some PL200/300/400 type adhesive should work for insulating something like that w/ the blue or pink insulation board.Going to make a trip to the stores to take a closer look-see.Opinions/thoughts/acutal use?UG
Grabs
Should work great, don't see any reason why it wouldn't. Just make sure you put decent skids on and secure them to the house well. And by the way the PL300 works great with rigid insulation. I used it to insulated the floor of my Ultra Shack this past month.
Guest
It can be hard to find a trailer that will carry an 8ft wide load. You may want to get a trailer first and build the shed to fit it.
minneman
they build these usualy at the yard your at, you could ask them to use barn steel on the roof for one, or just by the framing and cover it yourself w/lighter materials, they are heavy! Gissert
I have seen and used them up in the NW Angle of LOW. They make great shacks, as long as I dont have to pull them back off the lake, LOL.Seriously, these are my favorite houses up there to fish out of. They are very roomy, and warm. The insulation is that sprayed on foam that cures to a hard shell. They have them on log skids, and move them with bombers. If I was going to make a shack that I wanted to move from lake to lake, these would not be my first choice. Too big, too heavy. If I was gonna leave it on one lake, and had the means to move it when the snow got deep, I would make one in a heartbeat.
Guest
Flying fish and I looked at them a couple years ago before our camper came into existence. Only looked a t few, But the ones we did see seemed to be built like brick ..... houses on the top. The bottoms of the sheds are what needs reinforcements. They're not built very strong on the base. This could be fixed easily with a couple of timbers. But in all reality, Its not necessary to have all those shingles and other heavy stuff. If you sat down and figured it out, I'm sure you could build a much more suitable house from scratch at about the same price.
