Who Was Out On The MN River Last Night?

I was out there from about 5:00 - 10:30pm last night. Launched at the 35w ramp and went upstream past the barges.. Didn't get any bites though. Although, Bob caught a 16lber!! Come on Bob, I want to see that picture! haha

I was in the Blue tracker if you were on the river!

No, we were up near Belle Plaine.

I would have recognized your boat and stopped to chat if I did see you.

Oh ok.. haha.. I was on there yesterday and I think it was a Crestliner with 2 rod holders came cruising by at sundown they must have been going about 35-40mph and they finally saw us at the last minute and slowed to about 25-30mph and passed maybe 15-20 yards from my boat... caused a pretty big wake. Enough to shift the boat and jar the 30lb anchor loose crazy.gif

I'm going out again this Friday night, same area! hehe.. Hope to do better. There were alot of log jams and I tried to work them but I kept losing hooks so I gave up. gonna go back and try though grin.gif

Sorry webwarrior about the big wakes, I was going about 35 mph down the straight-away, but I did slow to 16 mph gps-indicated as I was coming past you guys. Still apparently a bit fast. I always forget that the dang wakes bounce back and forth when they hit shore on the river. Again, sorry bout that. I'm pretty new to the river thing. If it's daylight I move fast, at night I move slow. Try not to disrupt the fishing, didn't think 16 mph was all that fast, but I'll slow down a bit more next time. Maybe <10.

My buddy had 1 fish hit his bait, we aren't sure what kind it was. He doesn't have a bait runner or clicker at all, by the time he opened his bail to feed it some line, it was gone. He did catch one 4.5 lb sheepshead tho.

I hear ya there! There's definitely fish in them thar waters, just have to put in a bulk-order of hooks/sinkers before I fish those logs more! Plus another anchor for a spare! I had my anchor hooked into a log pretty good last night. Didn't lose it but holy moly I thought I was going to. I couldn't pull it out, had to just tie it down tight to a cleat and try to power it out by motoring downstream. Even that didn't work til I hit about the 5th different angle! Whew.

I'm not sure about the MN river but the unwritten rule of courtesy on the Red River is to get off plane before you get to a boat and slowly idle by. However, if the guys in the boat you are approaching wave you by, by all means, continue on at full steam. smile.gif

Cpy that. Thanks for the tip. Again, sorry for the disruption, webwarrior, still new to this narrow-water, wave-reflecting sides fishing. Will slow down off plane next time!

Webwarrior & Aanderud,

Good meeting you out on the water and at the launch last night. We had a pretty decent night in Bob's boat. I think in all we had 5 runs. Managed 3 fish. my lady managed a 16lber. I caught a 3 lber, and a lost a really nice walleye at the boat. The old captain missed his oppurtunity for a fish with a missed run. All in all a good night. Fish were really active from 9:00pm to 9:30pm.

I wouldn't mind so much but its just that those darn bass trackers are so shallow and waves makes me kinda nervous on the river.. grin.gif

I think you guys fished the spot that we started up on.. We were there for about an hour and then moved down when you guys came up on that spot.. I think its just myself or the approach that I was using that I didn't get any bites..

I;ve learned a few spots though so hopefully Friday!! laugh.gif

Web,

No picture yet. I keep it old school with the film. I'll try and get it up on the shop wall soon. sorry. I wish it was on digital though. It was my girlfriends first ever flat, so it would be nice to show it off for her. Oh well.

Nice job on that 16 pounder, that rocks. Hopefully she's hooked on cattin now! It's nice to have a girlfriend/wife who will go fishing with you once in a while because then it counts as "together time", not "fishing time" on the old scale of when you get to do what and where! smile.gif

Sounds like a party up there. I was down stream from all of you. 2 Flats 1 channel all under 10lbs. Missed one nice flat right at the back of the boat. Just about knocked my teeth out when the 4oz came shooting up at me. I think I missed a nice channel on cut also. Was pulling drag on my smaller rod.

Theres no more fish up in those log jams. Been all pulled out.

Aandrude You got your dog down on sniffing cats out yet. I recovered my rig that we saw that night we were out, from back when the water was up.

Karl, congrats to you and your gal on the cats.

Web Warrior, I hope to cross paths with you if your fishing the contest this sat. I might even see you out and about this Fri. Better watch out Bob gets kinda protective of his spots..... LOL There is no HUSH HUSH on the MN river for those that spend any time on there...

I won't be doing the cat league. Bob asked me too but I'm just not good enough yet. Once I get used to it, perhaps i will in the summer.. I plan on launching around 5 this Friday so I'll keep an eye out for you. I'm in a Blue tracker so if you see me, don't be shy!!
