mold on bait?

I have four freezers, two on top of fridges, one large upright that the wife grumps about me using this time of year, an one medium chest freezer. These get packed with bait. I always end up with barely enuogh bait to get me a shot at a bruin. I have three 50 gal. drums that I thought too store dry goods like pizza, bread, pastry an such, but the air an heat of the summer will inevitably cause alot of mold build up. Dose this discourage bear or make them sick if eaten to much. I know to much grease will cause the diareah an bears dont like that, I like to soak the folliage with that. Bears can eat just about kind of digestable substance they find apealling. But I'd hate to bring home a couple hundred pounds of bait an have so much mold on it by baiting time that it is not something bears will bother with. Thanks boar

I guesse thats why I like fishing MN cause you can sound really smart or really dumb. My bad..Boy have to laugh at myself on that one, or play osterich an hide my head in the sand. No wonder my wife shakes her head at me. Anyway... Humbly, boar

Boar, in my experiences I have seen that some bear will eat moldy bait and others will not touch it. Generally I would say not to use bait that is moldy just because you are competing with mother natures food sources and other hunters. Try to have the best bait possible and you will be more successful. Put some money aside every week and buy another chest freezer or check hsolist or garage sales/auctions for one.

Thanks walter, I've been contemplating that for awhile now, I've always used the freshist possible in the past, but with wanting to store more bait the only other alternative would be more freezer space, I agree, and with competing food sources. Later boar

From previous experience bread that molds is not good. They generally will not touch it. If you can get donuts and pastries and pack them into the barrels, inside plastic bags as tight as possible and tied at the top, it will stay good for a couple years with minimal mold on top. It will smell just as fresh as when barreled. Bread, buns and bagels will generally mold rather quickly.

Thats good to know cause I can get plenty of pastry, I did manage to pick up a deli cooler with cutting board totaly stainless, it's acessable with slidding stainless lids on top an two compartments with doors on bottom, a heavy duty industrial cooler, I took alook at the thremostate an it can turn down to 30- I set it a 10+ an let it cool to temp an put in aglass of water an froze the surface in only a few minuets. It's small compartments are only the size of a fridge top freezer but it helps an for 30 bucks the stainless an cuting board are worth many more bucks than that. Still serching for my large chest freezer though, every time the wife takes out something for supper it's usually bear bait Ha! Later Boar
