Bucktail colors for Big V

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm heading up to Vermilion 4th of July week and am gonna make up some bucktails for the trip. Am hoping for some suggestions on colors as well as blade size and type - I'm pretty stocked and can do just about any combo. Thanks, later.

I've only fished the big V once, but I had some follows on Black/Orange hair with one willowleaf blad. I am sure you will get more helpful info from others.

I only made three bucktails before last summers annual trips but the neat thing abut making lures is size. Why not throw something so big the fish just have to hit it?! My rommies routinley make 1-4 ounce bucktails with huge brass beads and egg weights with colordo blades and huge fluffy feathering. My go to color last summer turned out ot be a gold willow blade, silver beaded body with really fluffy pink hair over not so flufy yellow hair and a few wisps of grey phesant feathers as a trailer. Big fish eat big lures and thats no exception on big V! my roomates best night was a 50", 51" and a 54 1/2" in an hr one night!!!!

Is that good??? That's one heck of an hour!!!

I've only been to Vermilion one time. Three days and three fish in the boat. All on black and chartreuse bucktails.

Man I just have bad luck out there. I have never caught a Musky there in at least 7 seperate days on the water, have never had anyone in the boat catch one with me either, including one of the top guides on the lake. Just some followers and a couple near misses
