Tie Down Straps

Does anyone know of a good brand of tie down strap for a 16' Lunker?? I think I'll stick to the kind that goes up and around the back end of the boat and attaches to the trailer. The one I've got is getting all cut up from the ridges on the boat and the gunwale.

My cousin had a strap that looked like the material they use in vehicle seatbelts. Now that looked like some good quality stuff...had no cuts or frays or anything.

Just out of curiosity, why do you prefer the type that goes up and over the back of the boat? There are a lot of different types of tie downs out there from cinch ones to the new ratcheting kind. You might be surprised on how easy the individual straps are and how effective they are as well.

I love the new ratcheting type. They are sooo easy to work with and hold the boat very nicely. I do not miss the over the side type at all. Something new to consider.

I have the same boat and had the same problem. My over the gunwale strap became fraied on the edges. I recently upgraded to cabelas transome tie down straps. They hook on the the back of the boat and go straight down on each side. I have my fishfinder mounted on the bench right where the gunwale strap used to go. Now I don't have to disconnect it every time. Not like the gunwale style isn't secure, but the transome ones feel very secure.

Yeah...maybe you guys are right. I just remember looking into it one other time and not finding an obvious place to attach the strap to on the back of the trailer. It's under there a ways so it wouldn't be a straight down to an eye bolt type of situation.

I thought of that after I posted. Due to an accedent at the ramp last summer I now have an oversized trailer. Mine goes stright down from the back of the boat to the trailer. You could probably hook them on the side though.
