When buying a used boat, do you pay tax and title transfer fees like a used car?

In MN you pay title transfer fee but not sales tax on the boat if you buy from a private party. You pay title transfer fee and sales tax on the trailer.

If you buy a used boat from a dealer in MN you pay sales tax on boat, motor and trailer.

so do they ask you how much you paid for the trailer then? If you paid like 3k for a package wouldn't the trailer be worth like 100 bucks?

Most of the trailers I've bought have been worth about 20 bucks.

That is exaclty how it works, they ask you what you think the price of the trailer is and then they tax you on that amount.
