Tell Tail weak stream

Mr. Pike1

Question

I think I know the answer but just looking for advise. Went through a mess of weeds yesterday to get to a friends dock.

I then noticed that I had a very weak stream of water coming out. I am guessing that the weeds/dirty muddy water may have clogged the impeller or water pump. Once home I first ran a wire into the hole to insure no minor blockage there. I ran the rabbit ears to see if the stream had improved but no luck.

So at this point I am assuming I need to replace either the water pump or the impeller to ensure I again have that strong stream.

Any other thought/sugestions? Oh and since I plan on brining in to shop might this repair run inclusive of labor.

It could be that you have sucked some mud/debris into your intake and the pump isnt getting the water or you may need to replace the pump. Either way it will need to be split. As far as cost that depends where you go. Some shop rates are 60 an hour while some are 120. Its about an hour job. Parts will vary whetther you need just an impeller or a plate also.

I am guessing it may just be weeds clogging the output. However, upon doing some online research it appears the general guideline is that you should change the impeller or water pump every couple of years anyway. I have not ever chnaged these out and my 90 Merc in a 2000 so it may be an all around good thing anyway.

I am in Maplewood and the nearest place is Nelson Marine. Any other suggested shops in the area that someone could suggest.
