Guest
Hi all,Trying to figure out what direction to go with purchasing a lantern. Is there anybody out there that has any advice. Seems like Coleman has the market. I have had nothing but problems with battery lanterns. Looking for something that will be versatile for my portable and also open ice. Any help or suggestions would be great. Good luck fishing all.
minneman
for some, weight is an issue, but i use my smaller deepcycle bat and a 50w 12v bulb, its great light, quiet, put one on a clamp and put it anywhere, i need the excercize!!
Kidd
Got to agree with Minneman on this. I got a new lantern for Xmas 2 years ago and it's never been out of the box. I use a utility 12 volt battery (for a lawn tractor) in my Fishtrap and I just put some alligator clamps on an extension cord in my boat. IMHO it's the only way to go. huskminn
I have a 10 year old Coleman white-gas, two mantel lantern. Because I camp, hunt and fish, this lantern is the best option for me. It is versatil, works in all weather and is very bright. As far as ice fishing, I like it both in the portable and on the open ice. It provides a good amount of heat in the portable and I often don't need to use a heater. Saves on space and hassle. I have tried battery lanterns and they pale in comparison as far as brightness goes....and of course, generate no heat. Also, bitter cold affects the batteries too much. Many people complain about the mantels constantly breaking on these lanterns. True, they are relatively fragile and I always carry an extra set with me. However, one only needs to take a little care and mantel replacement is greatly reduced. My lantern has been in the back of my pickup since November deer hunting. I keep it secured with two bungie cords so it cannot rattle, tip and/or knock against anything. The lantern has been pulled around in my ice fishing sled over many miles, but always kept secure when doing so. I am still using the same set of mantels that I put on in October.Good luck.
