I don't need the government to scare me about global warming. I remember my biology professer at Mankato state warning us about it's effects back in the mid 1980's before it was a "political" issue. This is not something new. It's been going on for a while and anybody that has spent time in the outdoors the past 20 years should be able to honestly say that they have seen a change in the weather patterns. I've noticed it especially in the fall during deer hunting. It's something that concerns me as an outdoorsman and a father. I'd like to know that my children will be able to enjoy the same things I do years down the road.

So how many time have you hear yep I am heading to Mississppi to do some walleye fishing? Or is it more common to hear I am going to Canada? Sure it might have some false parts but I do believe the majority of the article and it does make sense to me.

Let's look at some falsehoods in this story.

First of all, it's been proven that the northern strain of Walleye naturally grow smaller and slower than southern. They are different fish. Northern strains of Walleye have been taken to southern lakes, and they still grow at the same rate.

While "carbon emissions" does add a little insulation to the atmosphere, more heat and "global warming" is created by the thousands apon thousands of square miles of black top roads and asphalt roofs. Add to that the thousands apon thousands of vehicles driving around with 200 heaters under the hoods, emmiting hundreds of degrees of exhaust. Lets also not forget the draining of our wetlands that not only removes water, that is a natural surface cooler, it also creates these annual "100 year" floods.

If Bass are a warmer water fish, then how do they survive in MN???

So, in short, as long as farmers drain low land to plant more crops for an already flooded market, and developers drain and fill in cheap swamp land to build houses, our state will be destroyed. As long as people insist that more roads, and more and bigger vehicles are the best way to commute to work, global warming will rapidly take out what's left of our natural habitat and the animals that lived in it. Throwing money at the problem will NOT work. Nothing like seeing someone puting a wildlife plate on their SUV or pickup truck and drive 80mph down the freeway....clueless, to say the least.

As a fifth generation farmer (on a farm that was a farm before MN was a state), we have seen the changes over time. We are farmers that work hard at preserving the natural landscape of your farm. It's getting tougher every year. Between the (Contact Us Please) at the county/state who want to put culverts in and drain the "evel" water away, to the zoning board who allows the low lands to be developed. Future generations will pay, and pay dearly, for todays greed and ignorance.

I don't understand all the fuss, the walleye may disappear, but the way I hear and read, we are to go by the way side also, so I guess the fish have their own forum, worried about global warming leaving nobody to fish for them. grin.gif
