Guest
I've never caught a splake, going with a buddy this week-end for'em, anybody know how to fish for them??
Surface Tension
Same way you would fish for brookies. Any where from 3 to 15 ft of water. Try pimples, teardrops, small jigging rap, Tipped with a minnow or waxie. Good Luck.
Guest
Simple float, split shot, hook, and minnow. The key is finding the right depth.Golden roaches work well, when you can find them. Clip tail fin with scissors to inhibit strong movements.

Cliff Wagenbach
If you are fishing splake through the ice, I have had very good luck with small Sweedish pimples with waxies or salted minnows on them. I also have had good luck this winter using Moon Glo jigs in size #6 with waxies as bait. Remember, if you are fishing in a designated trout lake you CAN NOT use live minnows as bait.NASTY FINE IF YOU GET CAUGHT!!!!!I have had my best luck in 6 to 15 feet of water, fishing 2 to 6 feet off the bottom.I use a foam bobber with the jigs as the fish seem to like to hit a sitting bait best and usually hit light. Jig your lure in 1 or 2 foot jerks and then let it set for a couple of minutes ,then repeat. They are attracted by the movement then move in and hit the setting bait.Good Fishing!Cliff------------------Cliff's Guide ServiceCliffsGuideService-LakeVermilion.comLake VermilionPhone: (218) 753-2005

Steve Foss
Goodlucka slateroofa. Give us a report. Wish we'd have a tourney like that in NE Minnesota. Lots of nice splake lakes here. Be nice to make money fishing instead of spending it. Hmm, bet the wife would go for that.------------------Steve ([email protected])
rascalP
Used to go up to Ely every winter splake/trout fishing. Mixed success. Mostly used salted minnows on swedish pimples on tight lines. Mostly smaller fish ,some nice ones that pulled off. But they all slammed the lure. We never tried bobbers so I don't know if they would've made a difference. One year, 15 minutes after drilling the holes (18 ft) I hooked and landed a 27" rainbow,in fact I'm looking at it right now. What a rush to have a fish make a few long runs against the drag. Trout are a blast. Lakes? Found, Skull, High, but don,t plan on driving your truck to your hole. That's half the fun.

Mnfisher
And they taste so good too!! You might want to try moving around just a bit. I've found a new hole might produce a bite or two, then it's time to try another! Good luck!
