I need a line!

I need a good line for fishing line for jigging walleye, perch, crappie and the ocassional northern. I think I am going to try Fireline Crystal in at least 12 lb. What should I use?

fireline is all I use.

I haven't used crystal yet but I've got 4 reels spooled with it for opener. I wonder why you think that you need 12# though. I use 6# for jigging and 8# for everything else.

I used it Ice fishing this year and will be using it on all my summer lines. I just use 8#.

I don't know why anyone would need more than 8 lb of the new braided lines. I bought some Power Pro 8 and I've lifted some big logs off the bottom with that. You can't break the stuff and its hard to cut but surprisingly a Northerns teeth will cut through it like butter.

The next spool I purchase will be 6 lbs.

The better fishing reel you have the smaller diameter line you can use effectively for fishing.

When I first started fishing as a kid, 15$ reel; 15$ rod. You'd bet I was using 12lb 14lb test lines. I used 8lb and was losing fish on line break, well except for pannies. Smaller diameter line would only twist and tangle up. The bigger line was easier to fix.
