Probably not opening weekend but during the week. I'll fish around Eau Claire, most likely Lowes Creek but might try Otter, Elk, or Sand as well. Gonna fish cranks and jigs/plastics this year - might bring the garden hackle as backup! wink.gif

I canoed the Kinni on Sunday. There where fly fishermen on every corner it seemed. Not the easiest to get the canoe down the shallows and try not to disturb the fishermen much. I saw three good hook up and landing, some nice brownies. Had the maui jims on and saw fish every where. On a sad point, our group found enough trash to fill up 2 small white garbage bags... Yuck. Way to much dump for a small jewel like the Kinni.

were you fishing stocked lakes or streams? 50 trout is a lot to pull out of a stream that relies on natural reproduction if you are keeping them. sounds like you guys had a blast.

Well we were fishing a small stream. The Reg's on that stream were 3 trout but they have to be over 8in. So we only took 30 out and as far as I have seen only one or two others fish the stretch that we do. And we only go on opener so we give it all year to settle down so that is ready for the following season.

went to my favorite stream in Northeastern Wi last Thurs. morning. got on the river at 6 a.m. and was off by 11:30 a.m. 3 of us boated approx. 30 brookies, all native, and we kept our 5 each limit. They ran from 8 to 13 inches. If we would have had a full day to fish, we would have gotten to the deeper holes and maybe hit the bigger fish we are accustomed to, but we had a blast. Started out with small spinners and quickly switched to a small hook and minnow and caught all on minnows.

Blake, sounds like a great day for you guys. Also sounds like dinner fit for a king! I need to get out trout fishing soon, hopefully next week, haven't done it in a couple years and miss it. Some nice browns in the local creeks.

Cooter, you ever get to the Medford and surrounding area, let me know! I will take you trout fishin in what I think is one of the best brookie streams in the state! The stream is about 75 miles from me....

doesn't really matter, but we do best on overcast, drizzly days. having said that our last outing was a bright sunny day, however we were on the river at 6 a.m. and were done by 11:30. slowed quite a bit after 10 a.m. We nailed the brookies on minnows, but as the summer progresses, we will use small hooks with a half a crawler or spinners. I am taking a buddy of mine up the river this week, so will let you know how we do.
