X65 Lowrance

Question

I'm having a problem with my depth reading locking up (flashing) when 10' or shallower. Sometimes it will start working on its own other times I have to restart the unit. The transducer was changed a while back so that is good. I was told by lowrance to change my manual settings but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else had similar problems?

When you say flashing I assume you mean that the number flashes just like when you first turn it on, until it finds bottom or when on plane and loose contact with the bottom.

I would check all your connections for corrosion. First on the back of the unit then where it ties in to a power source and also the inline fuse. Sometimes the inline fuse can look fine, but can have a film over the ends. Take a little sand paper to the ends of the fuse and also the contact point. Also clean the ground wire connection.

The x-65 has a couple of other features that can help you determine where the problem is.It has a analog gauge function that measures volts. It should show 12 - 12.6 volts when outboard motor is not running and should show up to 14 volts when outboard motor is running. If it doesn't than the unit is having intermittent power supply problems. The x-65 also has a flasher mode. Try running it in that mode and see if it acts up, if so then I would say it is a transducer problem. These intermittent problems can be real frustrating because they never show up when you take in to get checked out. Good Luck

I have an older Lowrance and had those problems almost constantly. My depth would always blink.

Last year I looked at my transducer and the line running to my locator was broken off right at the transducer. I found a new transducer and when I installed it, the blinking depth magically disappeared.

Here is what I think. The cord must have been compromised in some way (small crack, etc.) When I replaced it, I had no more problems.
