Bearded Hens

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering how many of you turkey hunters out there have ever encountered or even taken one of these birds. My buddy just shot his second one this past weekend. Seems kinda wierd, but pretty funny. What are the odds? Now I need to come up with a good nickname for him smile.gif

I was watching a turkey hunting show and I think they were in Montana and they had hen on film that was gobbling and the host was just flabbergasted and asked the cameraman if he caught it on tape 2 or 3 times. It was pretty cool to see that. I have never seen a bearded hen yet.

the way its been going I hope I do see one. grin.gif

My buddies brother shot one in Nebraska this past weekend and I passed on one the same day. The weekend before one of the guys I work with shot one in the southern Black Hills. I think there are more of them out there than a person thinks.

Sarge,

Seems I see at least one each year. I video taped one on my hunt this year that I called to within 10' of my blind. She would have been a legal bird, but I have no interest in killing a hen.

The gobbler I whacked came in bout 2 hrs later with the bearded lady and another hen.
