fishhousesupply heater question

I was looking at direct-vent heaters at fishhousesupply.com. They have the Empire heaters in the $400-$600 range and they have a couple of economy models for $139 and $199. The economy models are black and rated at 12K and 26K BTU's. Anyone have any info on these less expensive models? What are the major differences between these and the Empires? Thanks!

just make sure the cheaper ones are vented.

I have no first hand experience with the cheaper models but I can tell you that I LOVE my Empire! They are worth the money and peace of mind that comes from direct venting.

I would give Ron a call at FishHouse Supply and ask him. He is a straight shooter and will give you the right answer.

Just went to the Fishhouse HSOforum. The bottom line for both of the cheaper models stated..."manufacturer does not recommend sleeping with this unit on", even though they are vented.

Here is Fishhouse Supply's response. It sounds like the Empire is the way to go and the cheap ones are a burn risk, not to mention the "no sleep" warning.

Fishhouse Supply: "The Empires are worth every penny. They are safe, easier to controll the heat and you can touch the outside without burning yourself. In your size of shack you will not be happy using the 12,000 or the 26,000. These are not for sleeping and are hot to the touch."

Sounds like Empire is the way to go if you have small kids and plan on spending the night! I have an Empire 15,000 with the wall mount thermostat and it is worth every penny!!
