Dtro,

Ya hooked it in the gut. I notice you were useing cut bait. What do you think of live bull heads? What to you recomend. in genral for cat's this time of year? Live or cut? I used smelt (frozen) for years and would not have the greatest luck.

shack, for now if you want cats use cut bait as the flatties wont be active yet for a while, and channels prefer cut bait. shad are best imo, but its possible to catch them on crawlers too, among other things. thats what we always bring anyways if we are targeting channels. crawlers will get you a wide variety of species too, which can be fun. that 8 lb. carp fought real good on my king kat 7 footer. pretty fun stuff.

I hooked into one of them brutes like that last night, not much of a fight with a heavy action st croix! Mine would have given yours a run for the money on size, I think mine may have been smaller! Channels are biting, we caught several of them yesterday evening, 10 or so. Lot of carp, sheapheads, sucker, and mooneyes. We had alot of action, it was fun!
