Breaking in a new motor?

I have a Suzuki 175 and I was reading the manual last night and noticed it talked about doing a lot of extra stuff during the breaking in period.

It talked about changing the oil and grease within the first 20 hours. Is that really necessary? Is that what a person should do or is that overkill?

also it talked about staying in the 3,000 rpm area during the first 2 hours -- I thought it was best to move the throttle around quite a bit and not stay in just one RPM zone?

Anyone have any advice on a new motor?

Go by the book on that four stroke for breaking it in. My break in period was around seven hrs of use. Treat her right and she'll treat ya right. I just ended up getting my oil change at the end of the first season, and only had 18.5 hours on the motor. That Suzuki will record how many hours and at what rpms you are running it.

Also, I was very mellow with the motor last year, and it showed on the computer printout. I just had it out for the first time this year on Monday night and I think they did a little tweaking with the motor during the first oil change, seems like I'm getting a little more gusto and rpms now.

I would go by the book. I did on my Zuke and all turned out well. Its a 98 and running strong.
