The Appeldoorn's feel with the growth of Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort on the lake along with the Appeldoorn's Park Model Sales www.appeldoornsparkmodelsales.com in Onamia, Paul will be a big addition to the Appeldoorn family business.

Paul will be running the resort and I (The Cranker) will be running the Park Model Business along with helping out at the resort and marketing both business's.

"This is very exciting for all of us." I have always wanted to live on Mille Lacs Lake and run a quality resort like Appeldoorn's. And now I have an opportunity through the Appeldoorn's to do both, and I am really excited to be working with the Appeldoorn's and The Cranker." says Paul

Paul and I have already put a fishing event on the calender. Everyone, please mark the September 21st,22nd 2007 for the very first HotSpotOutdoors/Fishing Minnesota's "Harvest Moon Walleye Tournament" sponsored by "Lund Boats" www.lundboats.com out of Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort. Cash payouts to winning teams and largest walleye, largest one day limit. Door prizes and a hospitality tent with a drinks and food will be avaliable.

Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort is very much looking forward to continue building its relationship with Fishing Minnesota/HotSpotOutdoors and Lund Boats on this event along with other events in the future, both in the summer and winter months.

"Everyone, is really going to want to see our new cabins 9 and 10." says Paul. "These cabins might just be the best rental cabins on the lake! We are going to get these pictures of 9 and 10 up on the www.sunsetbayml.com HSOforum here within the next couple of weeks. I am also very excited about the Four Season Park Model RV Cabin concept that the Appeldoorn's have. These Park Models are going to be the best alternative to owning a cabin there is. They are unbelievable! Everyone should check these Park Model RV Cabins that are four seasoned! I know you will be suprised at what the Appeldoorn's and The Cranker" are offering.

I also want to invite all of you that haven't seen Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort to come on up and really see what this fine resort has to offer. I feel the Appeldoorn's Resort is unlike all the other resorts on Mille Lacs. Thats why I took this position. Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort is truely your family/corperate oriented fishing resort with very nice facilities! Can you tell that I am excited! Says Paul.

I personally am excited about Paul coming on board. With his experience and enthusiasm its going to be alot of fun for us and above all for you!

Cranker:

Phenomenal news!

Appledorn's is setting itself up to be the premier resort on Mille Lacs with all the positive going's-on. The staff isn't so bad either smile.gif

I've known Paul for several years now, and am proud to be included as a fellow director and friend. Paul's expertise in the hospitatility business, paired with his excellent work-ethic will provide a cornerstone in leadership for the resort.

Did I mention he fishes? smile.gif Paul is a consummate walleye angler with a knowledge of the species I could only hope to achieve. Oh, and he's not so bad at muskies, smallmouth, and perch considering my last outing on Mille Lacs with him! I know his passion for fishing will help to make Appledorn's not just a great place to stay, but a wonderful place to fish out of as well.

I would like to thank everyone for all of the phone call and e-mails that I have received over the last couple of days. Your support and encouragement are greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank the Appeldoorn's for giving me the opportunity to build Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort into one of the premier Family and Fishing Resorts on the Lake.

I look forward to meeting many of you in the upcoming months.

Ruh Roh Rorge!!! There goes the neighboorhood.

In all seriousness, congratulations to Appeldoorns for having some of the best staff in the midwest. Knowing Paul and Cranker are at the ground level of this operation will only propel their already great resort into the top shelf of MN resorts.

I know Paul very well. He has been an integral part of what Fishing Minnesota is. Paul is a hard worker, giving, sharing and most of all fun. Appeldoorn's Sunset Bay Resort is also a class act. Put Paul and Appeldoorn's together and a lot of people are in for a real treat.

Congratulations Paul!

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
