Nice move shrub made when he ran into JR. I guess he thought he didnt need to slow down with smoke and a caution.

That's what I was thinking too. To me it is just shrub being overaggressive at the wrong time(again). He should have had time to slow up, when they showed the replay it seemed like he didn't even let off the gas and you could see the 8 car in the middle of the track.

Pretty good of Jr. to get into the 5 car and drive it a few laps for them after their driver decided to take off before they had said their car was done for the day.

Harv, I just finished watching the race this morning and from what I saw of the 20-42 deal was that coming off the corner Stewart ran Montoya down taking away his good entrance to the corner. Well, Juan either didn't know that or wasn't going to play Stewarts game and went in to fast at the wrong angle and pushed up into him. Look at it this way, if Stewart wouldn't have ran him down the track Montoya probably wouldn't have pushed up into him.

I think it was a racing deal between to very hard driving people and Stewart will get him back, but I don't think that's a battle that Stewart will win since he has alot more to lose than Montoya does. If you have ever watched any of Montoya's open wheel career you will know that he dosen't back off or get intimidated.

After watching the whole race and how Montoya's car was here and there with his handling, he is lucky that he finished or even finished at all. many times he could have lost his car due to ill handling. He has had a good start for a rookie or for that matter anyone. But yesterday his car was not the best for handling. Many times he was squirrely.

I'm with MNFISH on the 20-42 incident. Tony races guys like that and often it backfires. It was two guys who were pretty much destinend to take each other out for a lap and a half the way they were running. 42 just got the better end of it.

As for the 42 and his handling issues, you are right Harv in that his car wasn't the best out there, but for a rookie with an ill handling car, it makes the finish all the more impressive to me. That joint is tough (everyone tagged the wall it seemed at some point) and he soldiered that car home to a top ten run.

I'll say it again, the cat can drive!

They both said in post race interviews that "he was driving me hard". They were destined to connect, and JP just came out with the longer straw. I wouldn't be surprised though to see Stewart get some sort of payback at some point....my guess....a roadcourse race.

I too thought it was CLASSIC how Jr. got into Shrub's car and finished the last 10 laps or so. Just shows how big 'a baby Shrub is. The kid doesn't have the raw, true passion for the sport like Jr does. My opinion right now....he's just in it for the fame & fortune (Shrub that is).

Kyle had to have been looking at his gauges or rearview mirror, and his spotter must have been napping. There is really no other explanation for such a bone-headed move???

My only guess as to why maybe this happened is that he kept it throttled thinking he was going to have an opportunity to gain a position by passing Jr.

Hopefully we'll hear the truth from him. Otherwise right now, it's a mystery. smirk.gif

This is what Stewart had so say about Juan on his radio show. He's either a good lier or not that mad.

On his run-in with Juan Pablo Montoya: Stewart said: "We had Juan Pablo Montoya behind us on a restart and he tried to go to the outside of me and put me in the middle of three-wide before we even get to the flag stand and I didn't really appreciate that much. So about 15 laps into the run here he comes and instead of just being courteous to him I thought, 'Well, he was going to put me in a bad spot so I'm going to put him in a bad spot.' So I raced him and raced him and raced him and that's where I made my mistake. Juan didn't get to this position and didn't get to Formula One by making bad decisions. Even as a rookie this year, and it being a different series, even as much as he's accomplished in his career, you've still got things to learn when you move to a different series. We'll talk on Friday morning before we go to practice. I know he tried to get a hold of me yesterday and I told the Godfather (Eddie Jarvis) to call Chip [Ganassi] and make sure he got a hold of Juan and said, 'Hey, we're cool. We'll talk about it this weekend.' But I don't want to do it on the phone. I want to sit down so I can explain it to him. I've got a lot of respect for Juan. I still stand behind what I said at the beginning of the year. He's got more natural ability than 99% of the guys I've ever raced with."
