Water Pump Impeller Replacement 70 Evinrude

I've had the motor for a dozen years so I guess it is time to replace the water pump impeller. It's an '84 70 horse Evinrude. I'm not a mechanic, but I have wrenched a little. How involved is it and are there schematics available on the internet anywhere? I can't seem to find much info. Anything peculiar to this motor or any other advice would be great.

I don't think you'll find anything online, go to a store and get a manual for your motor, it is a simple job but needs to be done correctly, it will take you probably 2 hours first time, then considerable less next time.

I would replace it every 2 or 3 years, part cost $ 20.00 and a sat morning before open water is all you need, it will save your motor from costly repairs.

Thanks Valv. I tried to track down a manual and have not been able to as of yet. I went to buy the impeller and it was $38 and the entire kit (orings and I'm not sure what-all, I haven't picked it up yet) was $50. Did I get ripped off?

No, you didn't get ripped off, put probably bought more than you need. Usually the O Rings and seals are OK and the impeller is all that needs to be replaced (and purchased).

Seeing as how I'm betting that the impeller has never been replaced, (it hasn't since I have owned it) I thought I would have the kit on hand just in case. It wasn't that much more money to have the works.

Yep... understood. The $20 price Valv gave you was very likely for just the impeller.

Sounds like you bought the lower seal kit too. Thats a fair price. Get yourself the manual and replace the seals at the same time you do the impeller.
