Minnkota Universal Sonar

Does anyone know when the universal sonar came out?? Was it any longer than 4 or 5 years ago?

Looking at a used maxxum with universal sonar, owner isn't sure how old it is....

I have a 2003 Powerdrive with Universal sonor. I think they hit the market in 2002.

I agree, I think it was '02 or '03, in any case it is not very old.

That's kinda what I figured, I didn't think it was before '02.....

You can figure out the age of a MK trolling motor by the serial number.

Usually it starts out with MK then two more letters. Those letters will tell you the year it was built.

A=0

B=1

C=2

D=3

E=4 and so on.

So if the serial number is MKAE the trolling motor was manufactured in 2004. However just because they were manufactured in a certain year doesn't always mean that is when they were put into service. Some dealers put year old new trolling motors on new boats. So when you go to buy a new boat make sure you check the serial number on there to make sure that the trolling motor is the same year as the boat you are buying and not a left over from years past.
