Question

what thermostat should i put in, cool or hot one. Going to flush the coolant this weekend and would like to replace the thermostat. Also,is it safe to add the redish color or stick with the yellow coolant??

The coolant should be green? Stick with the green. Its cheaper and as of this point I don't think a whole lot of people are convinced that the extended life coolants actually offer an extended life. In fact most of the extended life equipped vehicles get converted to regular "green" coolant when they get flushed.

As far as the t-stat. 195 degree is what you need.

Yup, my 94 works just fine at 198K using the "plain old" green stuff and a 195 t-stat (finally had to replace the original a couple years ago when it started sticking)...

I also use distilled water to flush and mix with the antifreeze. Sure, it adds a few bucks (literally), but I figure it's cheap peace of mind.

I also have a 98 5.7 chev......using the red/orange coolant.

A mechanic told me when I got the truck that already stay with the same coolant, if your car/truck came off the lot with green stay with green.
