4 Man Fishing Trip???

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am new to this forum and would appreciate any help to a few questions.

We are trying to organize our first fishing trip together. There are four of us and we are wanting to head north to a secluded lake. One where we can camp off the beaten path, rough neck it a few days. We have looked at a few places, with us taking a liking so far to Lake Pakashkan.

My question is this. Would you advise us to pursue this lake? If not, where would be some good alternatives to go that would accomodate our needs? Thanks for the help in advance.

Welcome to FM smile.gif

I don't know that lake, but used to go up to Kabetogoma and camp at one of the resort campgrounds on the Ash River Trial. It is most liekly not as remote as you want, but there is camping out on the islands on the main lake, in designated camp areas. Remote out there, sort of.

I guess it depends on what size boats/canoes, and how remote you want it. In mt older age wink.gif I kind of want some access to a restaurant and roof in case of rain, but I am not that old that I don't camp anymore smile.gif

Have fun, and try to think of everything before you go, like putting a bunch of $$ together into the pot for gas ahead of time and pay from that. If this is your first time together, and you are the one who owns the boat/motor, you would be surprised at who ends up paying for what wink.gif hehe, been there plenty wink.gif

Thomps9,

Welcome to the forum.

If you post this in one of the regional forums where the lake is located you'll likely get a more informed response. The regional forums are just further down the list of threads.

Good Luck!

Where is the lake? I've never heard of it. Canada? What kind of trip are you planning? Canoes, drive to, walk to?

My buddies and I have been beating the back roads in Canada for 25 years. We've done everything from haul sportboats through the beaver ponds and and into a series of lakes where we had to chop out a campsite, canoe camping in the Woodland Caribou Wilderness, driving down rock roads so bad we had to fill in washouts as we went. All the effort was worth it and we now have lots of "Remember that trip" conversation when we sit around the campfire. Not that all of our trips are expeditions, but we do a couple of rough ones each year. I see no reason why you wouldn't want to try just about anything. With proper planning and a good group any trip is doable.

Go for it, the lake has some nice big pike and plenty of walleyes too. The logging road you have to drive on can be pretty rough on you and equipment, the good thing is there is not alot of other people. When we go we camp on a island. Good Luck.

I have camped up on an island on Dumbell lake in st louis county. It has a slam box and a picnic table and thats about it. The walleye fishing can be just fantastic at times and it also has muskie. We went up for walleye opener one year and had no luck with the walleye but we could not keep the muskie off the line (we were not fishing for them!). I think three of us caught 19 of them in 2 days with the biggest maybe 12 lbs.

Just an idea
