Sugar Lake?

Is there anyone here that fishes muskie on sugar lake? I was wondering where the best area to fish for them is and what kind of lures do you guys use.

Im fairly familiar with the lake, I bass fished it about 8 times last year until the last time I was out there and I was working a zara spook through the reeds early in the morning and a big muskie smashed it, it scared me so bad that i set the hook and missed it completely. My heart was racing and i was shaking for probably 20 minutes and since then I can't stop thinking about muskies I guess im hooked now, lol.

RUN! Get away from this sport as fast as you can!

I am kidding of course, but yes your hooked. Your bass and walleye days are over. Head to Thorne Brothers, tell them what happened, they can help, also they can point you towords some support groups, where you'll find other guys with the same story.

If your talking about the sugar in Wright county, try posting int the Buffalo/Annandale/Clearwater forum. I've never fished that lake for skies but I've heard it was sparadic last year with most of the fish coming out of the weeds.

Where you hunt bass. Hunt Musky's!!!!!!!!! I have my eye on a very large one on that lake she visits me almost everytime. Some day she will bite then my 50+ will be in my book. Untill then I dream alot!!!!

By the way Musky fishing is very bad!! You can catch them anywhere on a lake. You would be suprised!! I' ve got them over 70+ft of water! There is no box when your thinking of musky fishing!! Good luck!!

All I can say ibs follow the bait fish!!!!

Yeah I just got done looking at the prices of those lures and wow expensive but probably worth it. And no im not single plus I got a 4 month old daughter and i'm going to school but maybe i'll eventually get both them hooked on it so I don't take too much heat and have someone to help pay for my lures, lol. or i guess i could just sell all my bass lures and walleye jigs i'll probably never use them again. grin.gif

Your story is about the same as mine only mine was over 10 years ago. I was fishing bass in the reeds with a spinnerbait...musky followed and scared me and my partner...we threw back the fish ate..jumped..spun...dove and came unhooked. The next day we purchased musky rods and some lures and have never been the same since. Now I build musky rods and make musky lures.

I love that lake.

Muskieman - We probably know the same fish, I see her everytime out. I have lovingly named her Sugar. She doesn't stray far from her "hole" and is always curious about the new baits I have in the tackle box. Someday I will find something to fool her, and I will kiss her on the cheek and thank her for the 4 year battle she has given me. BTW she loves the Bagley B flat.

I have fished the lake a few times in the past couple of years and have only caught one 40". I have seen multiple fish out there and now that I have moved to clearwater I will propbably be out there more often. The weekends are a bad time to go out during the day since there are all kinds of idiots out there racing around. Fish the mornings and evenings and the weekdays. Also have heard good reports from people fishing after dark. Good luck and maybe I'll see some of you on the water.
