Silverado cruise control quit

I have a 2004 Silverado on which the cruise control quit working after going through the snow on Bowstring two weekends ago. I thought it may come back when everything thawed out but it hasn't. Does anybody have any ideas on where to start looking to fix it?

I had the same thing. Found out later that the switch on the brake peddle was set to low. I lifted the peddle with my foot a few days later and it work. Then I adjusted the switch so you had to step on the peddle harded to kick it out.

I lifted the brake pedal on the way to work this morning and the cruise still didn't work. I will look closer at the switch tonight. Any other ideas? Any sensors or fuses to check?

everything else is ok? throttle and throttle response is good? i know on the new GM TAC drive by wire systems the cruise is controled by the throttle actuator.

if so check fuse, has its own fuse, its a 10 amper.

if thats ok, ide check the ground, and thats at the throttle actuator control (TAC) module and thats where that circuit grounds to, the 3 controls are to that one common ground so wiggle the connectors. but usually bad grounds are intermitant, so i doubt thats the problem, anyway its on the firewall little gray box

thats kind of the easiest things i could think of to do at home, there are diffrent things you could start with or diagnose, but thats bout the easiest it gets to do at home.

these new cruise systems are kinda easy so hopefully we can talk you thru all the easy stuff to fix it, theres more we can suggest so let us know what you try

There are four fuses that this system uses. Two are in the under hood fuse block (ETC/ECM fuse *unlikely* and the stop lamps fuse *probably wouldn't have brake lights and likely would have an ABS light on if this one was blown*). the other two are in the instrament panel fuse block (lower left side of the dash). these would be the vehicle stop fuse and the cruise fuse.

If all these check out than the next step is to brake out the scan tool. Like matt mentioned the cruise is integrated with the "drive by wire" throttle control. There are only two additional components that the cruise uses. the cruise control switch itself and the light that lets you know the cruise is on.

This doesn't really help a whole lot but at least you have some idea of the simplistic complexity of this system. Or as I like to call it, progress!!

Thanks for the replies. I checked the "cruise" fuse and it looked good but swapped it with another 10 amper anyway. No change. I will check the other ones you have described. Is the TAC on the firewall on the driver's side? I took off and put back on the two wireharnesses on the box on the driver's side firewall with no luck. I'll check it's ground this weekend.

I checked the other fuses by sight and with an ohmmeter. Everthing checked out OK. I couldn't believe how many fuses were in the fuse block under the hood. Maybe it was taking them out and putting them back in that improved the connection but it worked after that. Thanks for telling me which fuses to check. That's why FMers are the best.
