Temp light on '96 Arctic Cat

Wild Thing

Recommended Posts

hey you snowmoble dudes

I am not a motorhead at all but own a '96 Arctic Cat Cougar 550 2-up and use it only occasionally for ice fishing. it works fantastic (only has 1,600 miles on it) but the temp warning light seems to come on fairly often, at least in a faded light (not bright.) I checked the anti-freeze which seems okay.

It happens sometimes, but not others. No clear pattern. Sometimes it stays on for 5 minutes and sometimes it goes off. The sled sits for weeks between uses so that may be a factor.

Any ideas what's wrong and how to fix it?

Gracias.

Are you riding this at slow speeds and on ice? My advice is get some "ice scratchers" or some other brand of device like those to throw some snow or ice shavings up into your tunnel. You need that for the cooling, that's where your coolant runs. You also need it to keep your Hyfax's cool and lubed too so its a double bonus to get some snow/ice shavings up in that track/suspension area.

Thanks! Are those devices tought to install?

I indeed do most of my running on the lake, although there was some snow on it last time.

And I guess I go pretty slow, usually 30-40 mph if that's slow.

Thanks again.
