Creek Kid
Hats off to the Jaycees for putting safety first. Last year there were 10,000 people and 2 feet of ice and I still heard a shift or crack every once in awhile. I couldn't make it this year due to prior plans but with the new date I think I might. There are sure to be many people that have planned this a long ways in advance and are surely disappointed but as the Jaycees stated, it's not worth risking a potential disaster. It's a decision that helps solidify a trust in the people that put this event on.
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted January 17, 2002 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted January 17, 2002 PRESS RELEASE Due to public safety concerns, the 12th Annual Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza has been postponed. The Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, February 9th on Brainerd's North Long Lake. Cooperatively, the Brainerd Jaycees and the Crow Wing County Sheriffs Department made the decision based upon existing ice conditions. Jim Davis, Chairman of this years Extravaganza, said "With current conditions, we didn't feel comfortable gambling on the extended forecast. Although the forecast is favorable, we felt we needed to make a decision today on order to accommodate all participants travel plans." Ticket holders that can not participate on Feb. 9th can mail in their ticket(s) postmarked no later than Feb. 8th to receive a voucher(s) for next year's Extravaganza.
