A staff person at In-Fisherman is reported missing and a friend of mind call this morning asking for help in getting this poster out. I do not know if this is something that Fishing Minnesota can help with or not but I didn’t think it would hurt to ask.

Friday a.m., Brainerd

Thanks to the efforts of the entire staff here in Brainerd, the story became a statewide story on Wed. evening on all major media. Apparently, that result must have lit the flame under the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in St. Paul, as well as local authorities, because beginning Thursday morning this area was buzzing with state and local law enforcement action including in-depth interviews with people like Ryan’s parents, and me.

Ryan made a credit card purchase at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning in Winona, MN, 250 miles south of here and his image is on a security camera at that location. That was new information yesterday. Since he was also seen on the security camera in Rice, MN, 50 miles south of here at 6 am that morning, it is apparent he was headed north at a brisk rate.

Likely as a result of this sudden interest by the authorities yesterday, their in-depth look and the help of media, and our efforts, Ryan’s vehicle was reported Thursday afternoon by a cabin owner in northern Minnesota who reported the truck parked at a neighboring cabin 20 miles from the town of Ely, Minnesota, one of the last stops on the way into the Boundary Waters Canoe area in far Northeastern Minnesota. A man fitting Ryan’s description had been seen on at least one of the days previous, but had not been seen yesterday.

Ryan’s parents and authorities arrived on the scene late last night but Ryan was not found at the cabin, though his keys were in the parked truck. There were signs that he had slept in the cabin, and a bow was found there also. The cabin turns out to be that of a friend of Ryan’s from Brainerd, a hunting buddy, who had no knowledge that Ryan was there.

According to my contact at the BCA, this morning, state and local authorities are searching via helicopter and ground searches in local towns and hamlets near the cabin to try and locate Ryan. They remain concerned about his welfare and are trying to determine if he is in harm’s way. They are hoping for a happy ending.

They did tell me that they had information they could not release to me, and I have no idea what that might be.

That’s all I know at this time. There are plenty of rumors flying around, but none are confirmed and the information I have given you includes all the facts released to this point.

We have distributed a new poster to sources in northern Minnesota in the last hour. We have removed his truck from the former poster and provided the new information about his last confirmed location.

The BCA contact told me that, in his judgment, Ryan had not, nor would not harm himself.

Just learned last night that Ryan has been found and reunited with his parents, though details are sketchy right now. He suffered minor frostbite but otherwise seems okay.
