Which quick release bracket to get?

berfish

Question

I bought a Minnkota Maxxum and I want to get a quick release bracket for it. I am familiar with the sliding type that have been around for about a decade. Now I have been told there is a composite bracket. I have seen a picture of them on the Thorn Brothers web page and in the Cabelas catalog. I dont know much about them. Are they sturdy? Does it release easily? How big compared to older type? What do you guys/gals that have this mounting system think? Thanks for any info.

I have the composite mounting bracket for my Powerdrive. It is mounted on my pontoon boat. The bracket works great! I had to get it levelled correctly (no big deal once I realized the problem) when I installed on top of the boat carpet, otherwise it was darn near impossible to remove or install the motor. I installed it at the beginning of last season and used it all summer. It works well on my pontoon deck because when the motor is removed (for cruising with a group)all it left was a plastic puck on the deck. I'd recommend it. It's a little more spendy than the metal, but leaves a much smaller (and less sharp edged) footprint when the motor is off. To me it's also a little easier to place the motor on, you just put it on top instead of sliding into place.
