John19
Has anyone used these angel eyes on trout? Either Lakers or Bows. Don't really have alot of walleye action out here in Colorado, but could always use a good spoon. Also, what about Pike? We DO have a couple of pretty good Pike lakes. Would jigging with these be pretty effective? (especially tipped with some sucker meat!)
curt quesnell
The original Angel Eye was derived from a Trout spoon. Pike hit them hard.A great all around Jigging Spoon.------------------Curt QuesnellNorthCountry Outdoors Radio

While they are now famous for catching walleyes, crappies, perch and pike they were originally made for trout and work well on them as well. They're great laker and rainbow spoons torugh the ice. can it be luck?
I just returned from LOTW and Red lake. I purchased some AE's and GD's at a local bait shop in Baudette. I never used either one prior to this trip. Fishing out of Zipple Bay, the bite was so-so. Lots of smaller walleye. I hooked my buddy up with a red Glow Devil and I fished with a red and also a gold colored Angel Eye. Both worked great! On both lakes I tryed other jigs as well. I never used the GD's, but my friend, after trying other jigs went to the GD as his "go to" bait. I stuck with the AE. The AE has a "fluttering" action when it drops, it sort of "swims", I liked that. I let the AE drop to the bottom and lift it about a foot off. Watching my flasher, I looked for any fish. If fish were present, I would give it a quick 1' sweep and let it flutter down, then twich it. My best results came from giveing the AE a look like a wounded, escapeing, baitfish. Swimming it up 1', slight rest, swim up 1', slight rest, up 1', rest, then let it flutter back down a few inches off the bottom. When I started my second series of jigs, the fish usually hit when it started to "escape" upwards. I would also work the bait a few feet off the bottom. When fish showed on the bottom, I would drop to them, then swim it away from them useing the series of jigging mentioned above. Most fish didn't like to leave the safety of the bottom. When I started to work it up, the fish bit before it could "get away" again. The Angel Eyes worked great for "calling in" fish. A series of sharp 3' lifts and drops would have the jig riseing and fluttering back near bottom. When fish appeared, I would go back to the 1' lifts. I wish I would've bought more of the gold colored ones. On Red lake something stole both of mine! But the red one worked pretty good too. The glow paint used on the jigs really work well. Also the walleyes on Red are getting big! We caught at least 20 walleye in the 21"- 24" range, as well as soooo many in the 16"-20" range. On Saturday a guy caught a 45" northern! Ice was about 10 inches. Crappies were hitting the day before we arrived, but we got zero. Oh well, with walleye action like that, I'd rather catch and release large numbers of walleye, and buy a fish sandwich from McDonalds. Man, those walleye are fun to catch!------------------http://groups.msn.com/canitbeluck
EBass
We have a question for those of YOU who have Angel Eyes, Glow Devils or Tackle City Ice Jigs. What do you primarily fish for with them and how do you use them to get fish to bite? I used the angel eye last year's ice season. I like the red and perch color the best but have other colors as well. I'd drop it down and watch it on the vex about a couple feet off the bottom after a good charge from my head lamp tipped with a minnow head or whole minnow then jig it and mix up my patterns. Marks would be at the bottom then come up to the spoon. I'd bring it up a few inches and let it sit. Said walter would move higher and higher as long as I kept bringing it up the walter would follow. Some hit it, and some go back down then I put back in their face and start it all over again. Most would hit on the second time though. Each fish is different. Some smack it, some tap it, some stare at it, and some ignore it. I'm still learing though. It is my go to spoon!
