Paul Rohweller
Up until my first trip to red lake I used to think spoons for crappies? Naa, gimme a plain hook and a bobber. I have started to use them more for the crapps and have been having some success! My color favorites are pink/glow and the chartruse/orange. I know of one crappie in the 16 inch plus range coming on an angel eye junior plus some numbers fish. Any other success stories to share? Guest
I was fishing tonight, and I was only catching crappies on my jigging spoon. Had a jig and crappie minnow on for a long time, and never got anything on it. I'm a believer. GOOD LUCK!!!!!Rusty
Iceboy
Yep - the way I figure it, the vibration of the spoon brings 'em in and the nice piece of minnow on the bottom lets them feed upwards - just the way they like it!
Guest
Paul, I would have to agree. Not only is using a small jigging spoon for crappies a good idea, it is a great idea. If you are fishing in areas that the crappies, walleye & perch are all together, as I was last night, you have a great opportunity to catch all. Last night I fished at bobber/hook combo on one rod while I fished and Angel Eye Junior/minnow combo on the other. I caught all the walleye on the Angel Eye as well as half the crappies. I am a big believer in bobber fishing but there is just something about jigging that makes it so fun. The funny thing was that the fish were not real active and one could easily overlook a jigging spoon and go to a more neutral presentation such as a dead stick/minnow. It was the action of the spoon that triggered the bites. The new Angel Eye Juniors are great and I have been giving them a real work out over the last week. So far, Walleye-Yes, Perch-Yes, Crappie-Yes, Pike-not yet, but maybe tonight!ScottS
7 grand kids
For Scott, did you use a whole minnow or just the head on the Angel JR? Just curious. Thanks.
Guest
You can add Northern to the list too. I never tried a lot of differnt colors but used the hammered gold the most cause it was working. The water was gin clear, you didn't need an aqua view to see perfect 12 ft down. I was using the Jr size and had a big slim break me off now I need another small hammered gold angel eye. It was educational to fish in that clear of water and watch the action of different lures. I tried buck shots, cast masters, pimples and angel eyes (all the same size) and the angel eye had by far the best flutter.
SpikeRoberts
are the angel eye jrs. available in single quantities at any retailers or do you have to buy the 12 pack from the HSOforum?[This message has been edited by SpikeRoberts (edited 01-03-2002).]
curt quesnell
OK, here is the fun thing to do...each andevery time you catch a fish on eithertype of Angel Eye Minnow...You just singthe Angel Eye song..."pretty little angel eyepretty little angel eyepretty little, pretty littlepretty little, pretty littlepretty little angel eye"The song will get sung alot.I started using the standard Angel Eyelast winter on Lake of the Woods and it was the most productive line in the house every time!I used the Jr at Red Lake on New Years Dayand again it was the busiest line for Crappies, Perch and Microwalleyes. My advice to you all is to get a card ofeach....there are 6 colors of each so youare only buying 12 of them. Or, if you cant swing gettin all 12 just get 6 of the Jrs because it seems like everything is bitein on em.Pretty little Angel Eye...(love that song)Curt Quesnell

we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted January 4, 2002 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted January 4, 2002 The Angel Eye Spoons are indeed effective. You can also add Carp to the list. I caught a 40+ pounder last winter on Mille lacs. You can see the spoons at:http://fishingminnesota.com/sportgood.html[This message has been edited by Rick (edited 10-30-2003).]
Paul Rohweller
Heres something I accidentally tried last year with good success on the angel eye seniors for walleyes. I put the trebles on the nose end of the spoon, it will change the action a little bit and it could up your hooking percentage. I havent done this to the juniors yet, altho I will be on the next trip out. Angel eyes rigged pro style! Pretty little angel eye, pretty little angel eye. lol Have fun and remember the best piece of saftey equipment you have is right between your ears!! Guest
Mike, Great now everybody is going to run for cover. Didn't mean to offend anyone with my singing but between the hospitality shown to us by CorynTracey and the fact that I had that borrowed 4 wheeler underneath me, I couldn't help myself. ------------------Paul [This message has been edited by Pwaldow123 (edited 01-20-2002).]
Guest
I like to use Kastmasters for crappies. Small 1 1/2 inch in silver/blue or silver/green. I think I am going to pick up some angel eyes though. Sounds like they are a hot spoon. Good Fishing, Matt.
Guest
I guess I missed a question directed at me a few days ago. I usually use an entire crappie minnow hooked through the lips. That way if the slow fall of the Angel Eye doesn't trigger the strike, the movement of the minnow will! A couple nights ago I used and Angel Eye below a bobber, yes a bobber. I had my ice buster trimmed just right so it could detect the smallest bite. I made sure I had a real active crappie minnow hooked through the lips and that was the ticket. The slow fall of the Angel Eye would bring them in and then I had to let it sit and sure enough, WHAM! This technigue also worked great on Perch up on Winnie.ScottS

Bryon
All this talk about Angel Eyes has me curious, I have a favorite Crappie lake up north, can't get them to bite. Maybe these would help. Where do you get them? Who makes them?
Guest
Bryon, they are made by Jeff Beckwith at Scenic Tackle. They can be ordered off this site, at the link posted above by Rick.If those crappies you have found are not biting it certainly doesn't hurt to throw everything at them. When fish don't bite we have been tought to go with smaller bait, smaller hooks, smaller everything, and this usually is the ticket. But, every once in awhile, they are looking for something a little bigger a little more aggressive, like a jigging spoon. I would definetly suggest adding the Angel Eyes to your aresenal, you won't be dissapointed. While you are checking out the Angel Eyes I would suggest checking out the Jigs made by Scenic Tackle they have the BEST paint there is. If you do a lot of Rock fishing like I do you won't be dissapointed.ScottS
